We are lining up Genesis, we mean genius, live music shows in Sussex
Genesis remains one of the most familiar names in music, having impressed with progressive rock classics like 'I Know What I Like' and 'The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway' in the 1970s and, in the 1980s, stadium-filling pop stompers like 'Invisible Touch' and 'Land of Confusion'. And that's before mentioning the emergence of lead singer Phil Collins as a superstar in his own right.
Neither Genesis nor Collins have performed live for years - but, right here at Trading Boundaries, you can soon enjoy perhaps the next best to both of them. That's because two acclaimed tribute acts are among our many scheduled live music shows in Sussex.
Genesis first toured eight years ago - but, even then, for many fans of the band's 'prog rock' period, there were a few too many classics missing from the setlist. These included many tracks from the epic 'The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway', the band's last album with Peter Gabriel behind the microphone.
There are plenty of tribute acts that have sated desires to see the album re-performed in its entirety, but replicating all of the elements of the band's own musical and theatrical performances in the 1970s, which quirkily told of half Puerto Rican delinquent Rael coming across strange creatures in a bid to rescue his brother, is no easy task. Thankfully, in October, the Carpet Crawlers, whom Genesis keyboardist Tony Banks has dubbed "a lot better than most tributes I've heard", will be performing the whole album in our cozy venue of The Elephant Café.
There will be a good number of live music shows at Sussex's Trading Boundaries this festive season. However, at Christmas, we really want as many people as possible having fun - and few musicians in the world have broader appeal than Phil Collins. He has recorded many enduringly memorable songs which you can hear live from No Jacket Required in December.
This tribute band have, between them, seen Collins perform more than 30 times over a period of several decades. They therefore have intricate knowledge of his live act, from the rhythms and guitar solos through to the man's own trademark humour, and so can accurately replicate it all on stage. Su-su-so don't wait to book for your Phil of an authentic Collins experience.
